Hey guys! Here are somethings to know for tomorrow!
Directions:
Try to park at the “Gateway Visitors Center.” To get there from Providence, Follow Rt. 95 South to RT. 4 (Exit 9). Take that all the way down past the traffic lights. The road will curve right and you’ll see the Newport Bridge (Rt. 138 Exit). Take that EXIT!! Then, go over both bridges and take the first exit in Newport (when you’re over the second bridge). This exist is call “Scenic Newport”. At the end of the ramp take a right and go past the cemetery (ironically this is Farewell Rd.). At the light at the end of the semetery take a right and follow around. There will be a bBasball park on your left and the “Gateway Visitors Center,” will be on your right. (You should park there, it’s cheap!!). Then walk over to the ball park, and follow Marlborough street to number 26, The White Horse Tavern! (http://www.whitehorsetavern.us/index.htm)
Parking:
(As stated above, try the “Gateway visitor center, or park near the White Horse).
Dress:
Come casual, this is Newport, Also, we’ll be walking a little bit on cobblestones, so sneakers (“tennis shoes”) are a good idea. And for the ladies, white is now allowed as it will be memorial day weekend.
Expenses:
I am bringing us through a range of different pubs, taverns, wine bars, and restaurants, so there will be something for everyone.
Food:
While we will be spending 30 minutes at each stop this time (15 min longer than last crawl), I STRONGLY suggest that you eat before coming to the “Historic Tour.”
This will give you energy for the sightseeing, and fill you up in case you chose to partake in beverages.
Behavior:
Newport STRICTLY forbids Pub Crawls. However, they love large groups of friends pooping in and out of bars and resturants and never seem to mind there being a leader (Ah… Rhody). This is not a Pub Crawl. This is a Historic Tour done for a group of friends from C2U. Therefore, you represent C2U when you are out there. (You know the rest…).
Recap on the Contest:
A Rhode Island business that offers reflexology treatment has graciously donated a prize ("Fabulous Foot Massage") to help us promote C2U events. After all that walking, history and spirits - what better way to "tie the bow" on a perfect event. You can spoil your feet or the feet of a loved one!
The game is simple. Simply get as many newbies (people who have never come to an event) to the Historic Newport Crawl, and introduce them to the group. Message people you don't know on C2U to encourage them to come, write post postcards, ask your non-C2U friends to join up and come along...whatever you have to do! You will help the event be even better, support the website, and introduce the Newbies to the group through a great event - and your feet will be greatly rewarded!
Just in case there are cat fights over the prize, we have laid down some ground rules:
Rules for the "Fabulous Foot" Prize
• You must attend the event and introduce the newbies
• If you are a newbie yourself, you count!
• The newbies must be on C2U at the time of the crawl. Encourage your friends to join up and come along!
